Dermot O’Crikey
“…put fish in [the pool] and they actually have to catch the fish. Not with rods, they actually have to dive in… and catch the fish like bears!”
The Celeb Big Brother site has an interview with Dermot O’Leary, presenter of Little Brother, and multiple nominee in our The Big Whoop flat awards ceremony.
To Coventry and Back
I’m a believer in public transport. There’s a distinction, though, between believing in the ideal and believing that the current system that we have in this country is good. It’s not. But I think that over the next few years there is a real opportunity to make genuine improvements – to rail, tube and bus services certainly – and I hope they are made. Personally I believe that the London congestion charge is a step in the right direction.
All of that is by way of introduction to the fact that I had a really crappy journey back from Coventry on Sunday. Or at least it was going to be an introduction to that, but really it’s a lot more important than the vague moan I was going to have. Actually, my attitude on Sunday was fairly stoical (as it has, indeed, been towards a lot of life recently). There are so many terrible things happening around the world that standing outside Hayes & Harlington station waiting for a bus to take us on the final leg of our journey (admittedly a rather longer then expected journey) did not really seem that bad. Sure, I watched with interest the bad communication vibes given off by the station staff and how this was contributing to the level of stress but in these sorts of situations I find it easier not to engage. In fact, I think the challenge for me is to try not to become too detached from, well, everything.
Anyway, my time in Coventry was enjoyable. The show was lots of fun (talking about, amongst other things, the BBC Christmas schedule, Ronan Keating’s Cash Attic, the alternative Celebrity Big Brother and the unfinished business of ghosts). It was also great to see my old partner in crime (eugh, pun), Relly, who was in fine form. RaW is looking in good shape, by far the tidiest I have seen it for a long while! I shall look forward to returning next week, hopefully with a shorter return journey.
Back to the studio
Excitement ensues this Sunday and the next as I return to RaW, the student radio station that I was involved in whilst at The University of Warwick (see they have brainwashed me into saying it like that, rather than simply “Warwick University”), to re-live the glory days of the two (main) shows that I used to present. This Sunday (2-4pm) it’s “The New Adventures of Bonnie and Clyde” with Relly and the following week sees the return of “Arm-Wrestling With Chas ‘n’ Dave” with NoiseMonkey creator Mark co-hosting.
It will be really great to get my hands on the studio equipment again and broadcast to the campus and beyond. Now all we have to do is think of some stuff to talk about. Failing that, we’ll just force our musical tastes down the throats of whoever dares to tune in.
Where are my coloured pencils?
So, the time has finally arrived. The time when I start to consider some kind of style and layout for antigeek.net (and this blog in particular since the rest of the site mostly consists of very little!). Of course, that doesn’t mean that it will happen any time soon (spare time seems a bit of a rare commodity at the moment) but at least I’m thinking about it. As a result, suggestions of the sort “the text is a bit small” or “the colours are so dull” may be met with a rather more reasonable “I’ll take that into consideration” rather than the traditional “I don’t care!”.
Add to that the possibility of me getting around to adding some things to antigeek.net and I could soon have something that I would be happy to call a website…
Telly and Ray-djo
Thanks to Allen for these. Firstly:
http://www.tvradiobits.co.uk/ which has lots of stuff on old telly and radio, logos, loads of radio jingles, and all that crap I love just too much. Haven’t had too much of a look yet, but looks ace. And it has a page about the fantasticly awesome and under-seen RDA, including a picture of my favourite regular guest Cosmos Transmutuzoid. I think I saw every episode that there’s screen shots of. In fact, I had a hand in the Slovenian feed in this clip.
Secondly from Allen http://www.tellytunes.com/, which looked as though it was good, before they got slapped with a bill from the PRS.
Tunes-ville
The new Lemon Jelly album has just come through the door. Listening now, and so-far, so-yum :)
Looking through the lovely sleeve also lead me to the website of XL-Recordings, where the “content” of the Lemon Jelly page actually gives you a Flash production for “Peaches” (close!), BUT Electric 6 is also there, and you can listen to their mental single, and watch there even more mental video for Danger, High Voltage, which amused me no end when I saw it on MTV2 last week.
Link added
I’ve added another blog to the links list – deconstruct.me.uk. Excitingly, this is the first in the list that belongs to someone that I haven’t actually met (well, I only sort of met James Bachman) but she seems like possibly the coolest girl in the world.
Pattastic!
Thick and fast they come… It’s good to see that Pat (our partner in crime from the explained-in-some-detail Edinburgh trip and general all round top SHOULD BE IN RADIO bloke) has started blogging again. Thus he is also added to the sidebar. Of course, the more links there are across there the more we have to write in the actual blog in order to stop the template from looking broken :) Or I suppose I could fix the template… but that would be far too much effort!
